Shelter Usage and Care:
NOTE: ALL UNDERGROUND SHELTERS MAY SWEAT
Sweating may occur when the inside temperature of your ‘storm shelter’ and the temperature of the surrounding ground differ (out of balance). These conditions are favorable for ‘sweating’ in certain climates and seasons which will result in condensation (water droplets) forming inside the shelter. If sweating occurs several easy solutions are available, here are some:
- PRACTICE: It is recommended that you routinely practice a home escape and shelter entry plan so that you and your family will be comfortable with the usage of your shelter in the event of severe weather and/or warnings.
- CLEANING: When necessary, you may clean the inside of your shelter with a damp cloth (use a mild detergent if necessary) and always wipe surfaces completely dry with a soft cloth.
- MAINTENANCE: Once or twice each year, you may want to spray a silicone lubricant (found at your local auto parts store) on the rubber seal to prevent dryness and cracking on the seal.
